Nasarawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ has trained 80 practicing journalists on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern journalism.

At a one-day workshop in Lafia, Governor Abdullahi Sule tasked journalists on the need to deploy the technology positively to enhance information gathering and dissemination.

Represented by the senior special assistant on Public Affairs, Mr Peter Ahemba, Governor Sule said while AI can automate routine tasks and process data with unprecedented speed, the human element remained the commander of the technology.

“The use of AI and the training to be able to master the responsible use of it can therefore not be overemphasized. AI is like a two-edged sword. There are positivities and of course, there are negativities. It depends on how you use it. If you use it positively, you will get a positive result,” he stated.

He commended the Council for its foresight in organising the session, describing the training as timely given the rapid evolution of the media industry.
