The Nasarawa State Government has welcomed its exclusion from the latest travel advisory issued by the United Kingdom Government, describing it as a positive recognition of improving peace and security in the state.

The advisory, issued by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and described as still current as at 21st August 2026, advises British nationals against all but essential travel to several states in the North Central zone.

According to reports on the advisory, the FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Kwara, and Benue states. Nasarawa State was not listed in that category, making it the only state in the North Central exempted.

In a press statement issued on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Addra, the state government said it received the development “with humility and gratitude to Almighty God.”

“While we desire that such advisory in Nigeria becomes unnecessary sooner than later; the government receives this development with humility and gratitude to Almighty God. We recognise it as an encouraging reflection of the collective efforts to promote peace and security in our state,” the statement read.

The government attributed the positive outcome to the support of the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the sacrifices of security agencies, and deliberate security measures taken by the administration of Governor Abdullahi A. Sule.

It noted that the Sule administration has continued to strengthen the state’s security architecture, support security agencies with logistics and operational backing, and foster closer collaboration with traditional institutions, communities and other stakeholders.

The statement however stressed that despite the recognition, the administration remains conscious that more work needs to be done to sustain peace.

“Nasarawa State Government however, remains conscious that much more needs to be done and will continue to work tirelessly to sustain and improve the prevailing peace and security in the state,” Addra said.

Governor Sule, according to the statement, has appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information.

Nasarawa is one of seven entities in the North Central geopolitical zone, which comprises Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The UK advisory has continued to place most states in the zone under essential-travel-only caution due to concerns over kidnapping, violent crime and intercommunal clashes.
