Nasarawa State government has approved the recruitment of 1,000 primary school teachers to be posted exclusively to rural areas under a specialised scheme aimed at addressing manpower shortages.
The senior special assistant to the Governor, Peter Ahemba, disclosed this to newsmen in Lafia yesterday. He said the exercise recorded a massive turnout of applicants.
To ensure transparency, Ahemba said the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) engaged an independent consulting firm to handle the recruitment.
He also announced that the state government has banned matches and other games on school premises. He explained that such activities had consistently contributed to damage to public facilities and school property, including roofing.
School heads have been instructed to enforce strict compliance with the directive, he added.
Under the directive, pupils are to use designated school football pitches, while members of the public are required to use stadium facilities.
“To provide alternatives, the government awarded contracts last week for the construction of five mini-stadiums across the state,” Ahemba stated.
The SSA further disclosed that the state government has approved three-storey classroom blocks for each senatorial zone. He added that the Federal Government plans to build Model Schools in all three zones.
