The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has called for immediate sanction against politicians who subverted the March 18 gubernatorial elections in Nasarawa State.

CLO said it had petitioned the international community, including 11 countries, to impose strict sanctions and a visa ban on the politicians.

It listed some of the countries as the United States, the UK, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, China, Saudi Arabia, Australia, South Africa, and the European Union.

The CLO made the comments against the backdrop of a comment made by the Nasarawa State governor Abdullahi Sule on the aftermath of election petitions tribunal in the state.

Speaking in a trending video seen by LEADERSHIP, Sule said, “A lot of you must have read the tribunal ruling in our state when two of the judges, who are Christians, decided that a Christian won the election and one Muslim judge decided that it is the Muslim who won the election.”

Addressing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, the CLO president, Comrade Igho Akeregha said politicians and election officials must be held accountable for their actions, saying it will stop rewarding politicians who exhibit bad behavior with public office.

“The Governor has been making statements capable of undermining the sanctity and independence of the judiciary and capable of threatening the unity of the country.”

“The current reign of impunity by election riggers and manipulators must be put to an end if African nations will not be driven to seek alternative governance models,” he added.

When contacted on the claims made by CLO, the chief press secretary to the Nasarawa State governor, Ibrahim Adara, said the state government will respond to the claims (tomorrow) today.
