Arising from a one-day meeting yesterday in Kaduna, key stakeholders in the North have threatened to withdraw support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) if it fails to allow the North to produce the National National Assembly leadership.
This formed a two-point communiqué issued at the end of the meeting with the theme; “Nation Building and Democracy: The Perspective of Northern Nigeria”. The meeting noted that the northern region produced the highest percentage of votes for president-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and should be rewarded accordingly or would be left with no option but to withdraw support for the party in subsequent elections.
The meeting which was by powered by the Democratic Research Institute (DRI) had participants drawn from across various sectors from the northern states.
In the communique signed by Prof. Tukur Muhammad- Baba, chairman of the communique committee and Dr. Benjamin Izra Dikki, the secretary, the northerners emphasised that because the North was not in control of both the executive and the judiciary, their demand for the leadership of the National Assembly was non-negotiable.
