Naval Personnel To Face Court Martial For Killing Colleague In Zamfara

A Naval personnel has killed a fellow military colleague (name withheld) in Zamfara State.

A statement by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, said the incident occurred on October 25, 2024, at about 03:12 hrs.

He said the naval personnel identified as LS Akila A, was deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dansadau in Zamfara State for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, where he, in a questionable circumstances, opened fire sporadically killing a fellow military colleague.

General Buba said the errant personnel was thereafter, arrested, disarmed, detained, adding that investigation has since commenced into the case.

He said, “after investigation, the case will be escalated to a standing court martial setup to address such misdemeanour among troops.”

General Buba stated that the administrative procedure for notifying the family of the deceased was ongoing.

“It is for this reason, his name is not yet released to the public. Nevertheless, the name will be released in due course,” he added.

He, therefore, urged journalists to exercise caution in reporting the incident in order not to further demoralise the family of the victim.
