Navy Fetes 1,000 Residents With Free Medical Care In Akwa Ibom

The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Ibaka in Mbo local government area of Akwa Ibom State has conducted free medical care (Medical Rhapsody) for over 1,000 residents of the community in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The Commanding Officer of the Base, Capt. Uche Aneke, while inspecting the programme at Ibaka explained that the exercise was deliberately designed to reinforce the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to its host community.

Capt. Aneke said the aim of the outreach was to strengthen relationship by enhancing the well-being of the residents.

Besides, he added that the initiative was part of the Nigerian Navy’s 68th anniversary in compliance with the directive of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral, Emmanuel Ogalla.

He said, “It was also aimed at fostering civil-military relationship between FOB Ibaka, and the host community as well as contributing to the environmental public health support.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the exercise witnessed health talks, pre-medical checks such as blood pressure checks and malaria treatment.

Others included deworming of patients, diabetes, HIV and Hepatitis B and C screening, as well as donation of mosquito nets, drugs and treatments of different ailments.

Appreciating the gesture, head of Ibaka community, Chief Dennis Antai, commended the Nigerian Navy for the intervention and encouraged the residents to make the most of the scheme while he assured of sustainable peace and cordial relationship between the Navy and the host community.
