Newly deployed naval commander of Oguta Naval Command, Commodore Shettima Ibrahim, has declared zero tolerance for insecurity in Oguta, Imo State.
The immediate past Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had on May 11, 2023 flagged off the dredging of the Oguta/Orashi waterways linking Imo State to the Atlantic Ocean.
Ibrahim made the disclosure during a courtesy call on the Imo State commissioner of police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde in Owerri at the state headquarters.
The naval boss declared readiness to partner with the police to initiate modalities to check insecurity and other vices in the state.
Former Governor Rochas Okorocha had raised the alarm over the spate of banditry in several local government areas in the state which has forced people to abandon their villages.
Ibrahim said the visit was to strengthen the already established synergy that exist between the navy and police in the state and set up modalities on how to entrench a robust communication network.
The police boss in the state who was represented by the deputy commissioner (administration), Ukachi Peter Okpara, pledged the command’s cooperation, especially in intelligence gathering, prompt and timely dissemination to assist in the crusade against all forms of crime and criminality in the state.
He welcomed Ibrahim to the state and expressed appreciation for the visit which he said was good to foster harmony within the uniformed agencies and improve security in the state.
Others who received the naval team were the deputy commissioner of police (operations), DCP Femi Haruna; the deputy commissioner of police (state criminal intelligence and investigation department), DCP Mohammed Sirajo; the AC operations, ACP Abdullahi Musa and ASP Okoye Henry, the command’s spokesperson.
