NBA Hall Of Famer Bill Walton Dies At 71

Legendary basketball player and sportscaster Bill Walton is dead, the National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced.

The two-time NBA Champion died on Monday at the age of 71 after a prolonged fight with cancer.

LEADERSHIP understands that he was surrounded by his family members at the moment of his passage and is survived by his wife and children.

The NBA also held a moment of silence to honour Walton’s life before Game 4 of the Boston Celtics-Indiana Pacers matchup in the Eastern Conference finals on Monday night.

Walton entered the Hall of Fame in 1993 asnone of the game’s most celebrated figures. His Basketball career was disrupted by several chronic foot injuries.

Walton found post-career success as a basketball commentator, becoming well-known for his “infectious enthusiasm and love for the game,” according to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

Silver remembered Walton as a rare breed who redefined the center position, adding that he delivered insightful and colorful commentary that entertained generations of basketball fans.
