The Niger State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NCCIMA) is targeting the creation of 4000 jobs as it is canvassing support of the state government on a proposed partnership with the Dangote Group .
LEADERSHIP findings revealed that the initiative is a deliberate actionable framework to engage unemployed youths in rice and sugarcane production across the state.
The initiative is centred on an agricultural outgrow scheme expected to benefit about 3,700 youths in communities including Wushishi, Lavun and Mokwa where extensive land has been allocated to Dangote for agricultural development.
The president of NCCIMA , Alhaji Suleiman Liman, at a meeting with the new commissioner for commerce, industry and cooperatives, Alhaji Saidu Shuaibu Kaboji recently appealed to the commissioner to issue a letter of support to strengthen the chamber’s engagement with the Dangote Group and facilitate the implementation of the proposed initiative.
He disclosed that the chamber had already held discussions with the company which had acknowledged its proposals and requested separate submissions covering between three and five areas of collaboration, including the Outgrow Scheme and support for a proposed Business School.
According to him, the proposed partnership represents a major opportunity to tackle youth unemployment, stimulate agricultural production and improve economic activities across the state.
He stressed that meaningful employment opportunities for young people would also promote social stability and strengthen public confidence in government.
The Commissioner assured NCCIMA of the Ministry’s 100 per cent support, pledging to work with the Chamber to advance its proposals and strengthen private-sector participation in the state’s economic development.
On the proposed Dangote Outgrow Scheme, Kaboji said the Ministry would take the initiative to Governor Bago for consideration, either through a formal written submission or direct discussions.
