In a significant move for player and staff welfare, the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has unveiled a comprehensive health insurance scheme aimed at enhancing the well-being of its personnel. Uyi Akpata, the President of the Federation, has been instrumental in this initiative, reflecting his commitment to creating a supportive work environment that includes a competitive wage structure and clear pathways for career growth.

Health insurance is pivotal in promoting the overall welfare of individuals, allowing them to access preventive care, manage chronic conditions, and mitigate the financial burden of medical emergencies. The NCF’s decision aligns with this understanding, as it seeks to provide essential health benefits to its staff and players.

Under the new scheme, according to Musa Ehizoje Bodie, public relations and business development manager, NCF, all contracted players and staff will be enrolled in a private health insurance plan, with the option to select from a range of partner health facilities across Nigeria, ensuring convenient access to medical services. This initiative is particularly timely, as both the Senior Men and Women’s National teams are scheduled for various international engagements in the coming weeks.

Players will be able to complete their enrollment forms electronically, which will be processed promptly by the secretariat to facilitate immediate access to the scheme upon their return.

The Federation’s overarching aim is to foster a culture of support and accountability, ensuring that the welfare of its employees is prioritised through accessible means. Under Akpata’s dynamic leadership and a forward-thinking board, the Nigeria Cricket Federation continues to set a benchmark for sports organisations in the country, adhering to international best practices.
