NCoS Officers Suspended Over Alleged Misconduct In Yobe

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has suspended officers accused of unprofessional conduct with inmates in one of its custodial centres in Yobe State.

The suspension which takes immediate effect would be in place until the outcome of ongoing investigation.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Correctional Service, JN Osuji, Chief Superintendent of Corrections, stated that the affected officials have been issued queries to explain their involvement.

According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, approved the suspension after receiving the preliminary investigation report.

Tunji-Ojo also reaffirmed that allegations of misconduct within any agency will not be tolerated.

He said the NCoS maintains strict zero-tolerance policy for all forms of misconduct, negligence, rights violations, or inappropriate relationships between staff and inmates.

“Any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary measures and possible legal sanctions in line with established regulations,” he said.

The statement said the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, assures the public of the Service’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, integrity, and the rule of law.

He emphasised that all correctional facilities across the country will continue to operate strictly in accordance with extant laws, ethical standards, and operational procedures.
