The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has cautioned Nigerian youths against falling victim to fraudsters exploiting its Youth Internship Scheme to defraud unsuspecting applicants.

The commission raised the alarm in a disclaimer posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, following reports of a message circulating on social media in which scammers allegedly request personal details from youths in exchange for a N50,000 monthly stipend.

In the notice signed by its director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the commission described the development as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public by disguising fraudulent activities as legitimate empowerment initiatives.

NDDC stressed that it maintains a well-documented register of beneficiaries within its official database, noting that many Niger Delta youths duly registered and have benefited from the scheme through verified processes.

The commission urged members of the public, particularly youths seeking legitimate support, to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with unauthorised individuals or platforms.

It further advised that all information regarding its programmes should be obtained strictly through its official communication channels, including its website and verified social media handles.

The commission expressed concern about the activities of individuals it described as mischievous, who are taking advantage of young people’s desire to secure meaningful engagement.
