National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has disbursed funds to beneficiaries of Start Your Own Business (SYOB) and Micro Enterprise and Enhancement Scheme (MEES) in Sokoto.
The director-general of NDE, Mallam Abubakar Fikpo, represented by the Sokoto State coordinator, Mallam Mustapha Goniri said SYOB is an NDE scheme for training graduates of tertiary institutions on entrepreneurship and business management skills.
He said Micro Enterprise and Enhancement Scheme is an innovation introduced by the NDE to fight poverty and encourage micro enterprises which will boost the economic activities in our communities.
The NDE boss noted that the programme became necessary given that more universities are emerging which should mean more graduates being churned out of these universities to join the already bloated labour market.
“This particular situation can only result in frustration and give rise to various anti-social behavior such as youth restiveness, prostitution, robbery and kidnapping and other social ills resulting from joblessness.
“The directorate provided the loan packages for graduates of SYOB and MEES to help them start up their business and for MEES to help them boost their existing business.
“It is pertinent to inform you that this is a revolving loan and it is to be repaid so that others can equally access it,” he said.
