National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has commenced the training of 50 women and men on Techno-cultural Craft (Tecraft) in Zamfara State.
The NDE director-general, Abubakar Fikpo, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the training said Technocultural Craft is a scheme introduced to the VSD department to help youths acquire marketable skills.
Represented by the Zamfara State acting coordinator of NDE, Mustapha Aliyu Goniri, Fikpo said the skill sets are: clay pot making, calabash decoration, local tray making, local mat making and local fan making.
He said, “Fifty trainees are recruited and are currently receiving training for the period of three (3) months. This type of training has already been conducted in other states in the country. In this direction, NDE has over the years created a lot of job opportunities for the youths in the state by training them and providing them with a starter pack of resettlement for self-employment.
“All the four core programmes of the Directorate i.e Vocational Skills Development, Rural Employment Promotion, Small Scale Enterprises, and Special Public Works Departments are geared towards reducing mass unemployment, poverty reduction and creating wealth through job creations.”
He said the 50 selected trainees were drawn from the 14 local government areas of the state, adding that they would be paid a monthly stipend of N2,000 for the period of the training and also the trainers will be paid for their services.
