The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 1,860 suspects, including 92 females, and seized 5,409.8 kilogrammes of illicit drugs in Kano State between January and September 2026.
The state commander, CN D.Y. Lawal, disclosed this in a press release on Monday, adding that the seized substances included cannabis sativa, cocaine, methamphetamine and psychotropic substances.
He said the command secured 89 convictions and filed 126 new cases during the period, while 135 cases remained pending before the Federal High Court.
Lawal also disclosed that the command carried out Operation Restore Order, which led to the dismantling of about 35 drug joints and the arrest of more than 300 suspects.
He added that Operation Sharar Mafaka uncovered underground tunnels and caves in the Rimin Kebe area of Kano, allegedly used by drug dealers to conceal their illicit activities.
Beyond enforcement, the command recorded about 1,700 counselling, treatment and rehabilitation interventions and conducted 420 sensitisation programmes in schools and communities.
The commander thanked the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Gen. Buba Marwa, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, stakeholders, community members and the media for their support.
He urged residents to provide timely and credible information to assist the agency in its fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
