The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command has arrested a 27-year-old suspect, Umar Adamu Umar, for allegedly trafficking cannabis worth more than ₦10 million.
According to a statement on Saturday and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Umar, who hails from Fagge local government area of Kano State was arrested on August 6, 2025, along the Zaria–Kano Road.
Maigatari explained that NDLEA operatives attached to the Kiru Area Command arrested Umar while transporting 9 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, popularly known as Colorado, concealed in 19 parcels.
According to the spokesperson of the Command, investigations revealed that the illicit substance was being conveyed from Lagos to Kano.
“The seized substance has an estimated street value in excess of Ten million Naira. This interception represents a significant financial blow to the illicit network behind the consignment: it denies traffickers substantial revenue, disrupts their supply chain and distribution channels, and reduces funds available for further criminal activity.
“Removing this quantity from circulation also helps protect vulnerable communities from the social and economic harms associated with the trade in narcotics.” the statement read.
Kano Commander of the NDLEA, ACGN A.I. Ahmad assured of the Command’s sustained intelligence-led operations and patrols to prevent the inflow of illicit substances into the state.
