The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of a suspected cocaine trafficker while on his way to Niger Republic.
The newly deployed State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Mohammed Aminu-Abubakar, disclosed the arrest during his first interactive session with journalists in Katsina.
Aminu-Abubakar also stated that operatives of the command intercepted approximately 0.642 kilograms of a substance suspected to be cocaine from the suspect.
Commander Aminu-Abubakar, who took up his role last Friday, confirmed that the suspect was arrested on October 2 along the Kano-Kankia road in Katsina, adding that the suspect is currently under investigation.
He added that the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution once the investigation is complete.
He further emphasised his commitment to utilising all legal strategies available to combat drug traffickers and dealers in the state.
The Katsina NDLEA’s Commander also highlighted that facilities for the rehabilitation of drug users are available, urging those struggling with drug abuse to seek help, maintaining that substance abuse “does not pay.”
The commander called on Katsina residents to adopt drug test kits as a preventive approach to curb drug demand and prevent substance abuse.
He also pledged to collaborate with security agencies, their operatives, and stakeholders to reduce the prevalence of drug abuse in communities.
Aminu-Abubakar was recently transferred to Katsina from the NDLEA Strategic Command at Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos, succeeding Mr. Hassan Sani, who has been reassigned to the national headquarters.
