The Kano State Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 8,000 bottles of Akuskura, a herbal mixture suspected to contain illicit substances, and 48 blocks of Cannabis sativa.
This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari.
Maigatari said a 37-year-old suspect, Ali Muhammad was arrested in connection with the consignment, which was seized along the Zaria–Kano highway at Gadar Tamburawa.
“The interception occurred around Gadar Tamburawa, Zaria – Kano Road, during a stop of a trailer conveying goods from Lagos en route to Maiduguri.
“The trailer was fully loaded with Tricycle (Keke Napep), and the exhibit was concealed between the Keke Napep units and beneath the trailer where a wooden cover had been constructed to hide the items.
“NDLEA operatives discovered the concealment through their diligence and commitment.” the statement read.
The Command said all exhibits and the suspect were deposited in the anti-narcotic agency’s custody pending further investigation and laboratory analysis to confirm the nature of the substances.
The NDLEA urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious consignments or drug-related activity to its nearest office or law enforcement agency.
