National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano Strategic Command has intercepted a large consignment of illicit drugs, including 75,000 capsules of pregabalin and 556 bottles of codeine syrup in Kano State.

The seizure was made during an intelligence-driven operation carried out by operatives of the command in the Badawa area.

The spokesperson of the command, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, disclosed in a statement yesterday that the operation also led to the recovery of quantities of loose cannabis sativa suspected to be meant for distribution in the state.

According to the statement, the operation was conducted under the leadership of the commander of Narcotics, D.Y. Lawal, and disrupted what authorities described as a major supply channel to illicit drug markets in the state.

Although the prime suspect linked to the consignment is still at large, the agency said he is currently under surveillance while efforts are ongoing to track him down and effect his arrest.

Lawal described the seizure as a major setback for the cartel behind the shipment, noting that the operation had helped protect residents from the harmful effects of the illicit substances.

He added that the command remains committed to the fight against drug trafficking in line with the directives of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa.

The commander warned individuals involved in drug trafficking and related activities to desist, stressing that the agency would continue to pursue offenders relentlessly.

He also commended members of the public for their cooperation, urging residents to continue providing useful information to the agency to support ongoing efforts to rid the state of illicit drugs.
