North East Development Commission (NEDC) through its state office has donated 7,000 bags of rice, sugar and vegetable oil to the first lady of Borno State, Hajiya Falmata Babagana Zulum, for onward distribution to households ahead of the Ramadan fast.
The state coordinator of the commission, Engr. Mohammed Umar, made the presentation to the governor’s wife yesterday in Maiduguri to support her efforts in cushioning the effects of hardship on households during the Ramadan.
He said the gesture was extended to governors’ wives in six states in the North-east, adding that palliatives were normally given to the needy directly in the area.
According to him, the commission has from the 2024 Ramadan to date donated food and non-food items worth billions of naira to Borno people.
He said the NEDC had provided essential supplies to the affected communities over the Sept. 10, 2024 flood disaster.
Responding, the governor’s wife, who was represented by Dr Hauwa Mai Musa, the special adviser to Gov. Zulum on women affairs, expressed appreciation to the management of NEDC for the gesture.
She promised to deliver the items to the people, adding that it was not the first time the gesture was extended to the state.
