Presenting the items to the beneficiaries yesterday in Maiduguri, the managing director NEDC, Mohammed Alkali, said the gesture was part of the commission’s aim of meeting the health needs of the people of the North-East.

Alkali noted that the commission has been touching lives in the North-East , especially the internally displaced persons ( IDPs  ), farmers,  and providing housing to ensure that the brunt of insurgency is cushioned.

He said the commission had previously trained personnel in primary healthcare centres of the 27 local government areas of Borno State on handling of cervical cancer as well as its detection, hence it is following it up with the distribution of the medical consumables.

Represented by the state coordinator NEDC, Mohammed Umar, Alkali said the medical consumables were distributed to Damasak, Monguno, Gubio, Kaga, Mafa, Bama, Ngomari Gana, Biu, Gwoza, and Askira-Uba local government areas of the state.

He said the emergency equipment donated to the UMTH include an automatic nucleic acid extracting instrument; laboratory incubator, bio-safety cabinets, deep freezer, autoclave, oxygen cylinder, ventilator and mobile thermometer.

He added that the commission donated over 1,200 units of solar streetlights to Borno State government for electrification of communities to end incessant criminal activities perpetrated by criminals due to darkness.
