The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has donated relief materials to 23,000 farmers and vulnerable people affected by the 2022 flood in Niger State.

Director general of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, stated this through a representative during the flag-off of distribution of support materials to the victims in Minna yesterday.

The intervention tagged: “Special National Economic and Livelihood Emergency Intervention (SNELEI)” was performed by the distribution supervisor, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf, who represented the director general.

He said the intervention was to support farmers and most vulnerable people affected by the flood last year to cushion the effect of the disaster.

“Recall that the sad incident of the 2022 flood disaster affected many communities across the country including Niger State,” he said.

He listed the items donated to include sewing machines and grinding machines, rice (25kg), beans (10kg), sorghum (10kg), vegetable oil (2kg), salt (1kg), tomato paste sachets and seasoning.

Others were mosquito nets, nylon mats, blankets, plastic buckets, mattresses, sets of cooking pots, toilet soap, detergents and cooking stoves as well as maize seeds, rice seeds, herbicide, pesticide, growth enhancers, liquid fertiliser and water pump (3HP).

Ahmed advised the beneficiaries to make proper use of the items to improve their socio-economic conditions.

Niger State deputy governor, Comrade Garba Yakubu, lauded NEMA for always assisting the needy in times of distress.

Garba, represented by the deputy chief of staff, Mr Bello Ibrahim, said the items would go a long way to complement state government’s efforts in bringing succour to the victims.

Acting director general of Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Garba Salihu, pledged that the items would be distributed to verified victims.
