The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed 29 recycling facilities in Ogiji, a community in Ogun State over environmental pollution.
In an ongoing enforcement exercise in the South West Zone, the agency also sealed 20 other facilities in Ekiti, Osun and Ogun states, a statement signed by NESREA’s assistant director, press, Nwamaka Ejiofor said on Friday.
The director general of the agency, Prof. Innocent Barikor, said the enforcement exercise was in line with its mandate which he said gives the agency the responsibility of prohibiting activities and processes which undermine environmental quality.
He noted that it had become expedient to take drastic action against non-compliant recyclers in Ogijo community in Ogun State as their operations have continued to endanger the environment and lives of the citizens.
