Fans of All The Boys I’ve Loved, P.S: I Still Love You, and Always & Forever a trilogy young adult novel written by American Korean author Jenny Han now movie franchise by Netflix, will be excited to know that the character Kitty Song Covey, the younger sister of protagonist of Lara Jean is getting her own series.

An extended trailer of XO Kitty the Netflix series about Kitty Song Covey dropped on April 25 on YouTube.

The sassy and know-it-all girl now turned teenager who did her best to ensure her sister’s relationship with Peter stayed the course, has been given her own story. Though, Kitty doesn’t have her own book, the director of To All The Boys I’ve Loved franchise saw the potential of the character as enough to give her her own story.

In the story, Kitty (Anna Cathcart) now a teenage and in a long-distance relationship with Dae, her Korean boyfriend she met in the States, receives admission into Korea Independent School Seoul (KISS) her mother’s alma mater and Dae’s school. Filmed in US and Korea, and largely in the later, the XO Kitty trailer shows a diverse ethnicity of characters, Koreans and non-Koreans speaking in English, which some netizens used to Korean language translations find weird but good. It also boasts the airbrushed look of most Korean series.

Anticipating the series, netizens express but their excitement and apprehension.

“I really like that this looks like it has the same feel of the movies and looks a lot more mature than Korean high school romance dramas (which I love but to be honest sometimes you need some spice). You either see normally puppy love dramas), youngsters all stressed out because of grades, and/or a lot of bullying. I hope Kitty’s story is a global hit. I trust Jenny (Han’s) and Anna’s talent,” Chelisey13.

“Is it me or is my brain applying the typical Kdrama filter? As soon as she got to Seoul, everyone looked paler, airbrushed and the colors are popping more. Lol,” Johnny Joe Star.

“I hope we can get a cameo from Lara Jean in a form of Facetime call or something. But this looks so adorable,” Moksha Jain.

“An American style teen drama with a Korean background made by production crews who don’t know anything about Korea,” Huntman.

“This is tripping me out. As someone who binges Kdramas and Chinese dramas, its Asian meets west, and I’m here for it. But at the same time, I am so used to reading subtitles in Korean series now that I feel its odd to have them speak English.”

XO Kitty premieres on Netflix on May 18.
