In the Zach Synder prequel, which garnered 24 million views on the streaming app to become the most viewed title on Netflix, Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire tells the story of a peaceful moon settlement in the furthest reaches of the universe that finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical leader. A mysterious stranger Kora played by Sofia Boutella becomes their best hope for survival. Other members of the movie’s cast include Ed Skrein, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou and Michiel Huisman.

In the sequel’s trailer, released on YouTube on December 26, Kora returns with the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting alongside the brave people of Veldt to defend a once peaceful village, a newfound homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld.

The film’s director Zach Synder has cut his teeth in DC movies as Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Justice League. Netflix gave Rebel Moon a massive worldwide rollout to generate international awareness.
