The Africa Prosperity Network (APN) has convened a continental dialogue as part of activities to mark Ghana’s 69th independence anniversary, with stakeholders examining Africa’s progress towards economic integration and the approaching 2028 milestone under the Abuja Treaty.
The virtual event, titled “Ghana @ 69: From Africa’s Independence to Integration,” featured political figures, cultural icons and policy advocates assessing the continent’s efforts toward achieving a customs union, common market, single currency and the free movement of people as envisioned under the treaty framework.
The conversation came at a critical moment for Africa’s integration agenda, with the 2028 deadline approaching for key stages of the continent’s economic union. The process is anchored on the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement, widely seen as the central mechanism for boosting intra-African trade and deepening economic cooperation across the continent.
