With over $300 million spent on the purchase of foreign software and computer services in Nigeria, NeuRMS, an integrate software and hardware solutions company, has rollout a local software solution aimed at helping the over 48 million Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria, to retain forex spent on purchasing foreign developed retail management applications.

The CEO, NeuRMS, Lanre Olaniyan, at the launch of NeuRMS, in Lagos, said a lot of retail owners are using foreign software applications to manage their business, adding that this is a big challenge considering the fact that the dollar to the naira exchange is driving at N1000 per dollar.

“SMEs in Nigeria trade in Naira; they sell and buy in Naira, but at the end of the day, the applications they are using to run their business is being paid in foreign currencies. It doesn’t really make sense,” Olaniyan said.

The CEO said  many of the foreign software solutions are not designed for Nigerians, even as he disclosed that most Nigerian retailers don’t use up to 45 per cent of the features in foreign applications, yet they paid for it. “In addition, most of the applications have two level of users; either you are the owner or the cashier, there are no middle grounds and if you insist for instance, that you need your manager to do certain things, you have to pay extra for that,” he explained.

These and many other issues was the main reason NeuRMS decided to come up with the NeuRMS software application, an application that was carefully designed with the peculiarities of Africa’s diverse economies and societies in mind, Olaniyan stated.

“We looked at all these problems and we try to solve them with a solution that is contained in one word NeuRMS. NeuRMS is a standard for modern retail management. It is a retail management software that helps SMEs carryout their business in an effective and seamless way.
