Yilwatda, a former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, emerged APC national chairman during the 14th meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja on July 24, 2025.

The 177th regular meeting of the APC NWC was held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

While details of the meeting were yet to be made known as the NWC did not brief journalists or issued a statement, LEADERSHIP learnt that the administrative organ of the ruling party looked at the planned electronic registration of members and reviewed the schedule of activities and time table for the 2026 Ekiti State governorship elections.

The APC national chairman also received the chairman of APC governors under the auspices of Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) who is also the Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma who was accompanied by his Kogi State counterpart, Usman Ododo.

They were conducted round the ICT/Data Centre at the national secretariat of the APC, preparatory to the forthcoming electronic registration of members.

Speaking with journalists after assessing the facility, Uzodinmna expressed satisfaction with the preparation ahead of the exercise.

“We came to monitor and evaluate the extent of the e-registration exercise, what has been done and we have inspected and conducted a trip round the facilities and we are highly impressed with what we saw and also confident that any moment from now, our e-registration exercise will start in full force,” he said.

For his part, Yilwatda said the planned electronic registration was aimed at determining the party’s membership and support base across the nation.

“We can actually know people who are going to vote for us, we can predict the number of people that are supporting us and deepen our base also in each state.

“This is what we are doing, it will help us in research, it will help us in deepening technology, it will help our relationship in providing support for our members also at all levels,” he said.
