A 64-year-old New Jersey man who worked as a “Santa for hire” has been arrested after authorities accused him of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material, a revelation that has raised alarm over his repeated contact with children during holiday events.
According to a Tuesday report by the Daily Star, the suspect, Mark Paulino of Hamilton Township, was arrested on Monday and charged with possession and distribution of child sexual abuse materials, as well as endangering the welfare of a child.
Mercer County officials said the case began on December 4, 2025, when detectives received a tip about suspicious online activity involving the upload of child pornography from a residence in Hamilton Township. Investigators later identified Paulino, a retired elementary school teacher, as the individual behind the uploads.
The police revealed that Paulino had portrayed himself online as a retired schoolteacher and had recently been working as a Santa Claus for hire, appearing at photo sessions as well as private, corporate, and community events, a position that placed him in frequent, direct contact with children.
“Because his role required close and repeated interaction with minors, detectives worked tirelessly to obtain a search warrant,” authorities said.
The warrant was executed on December 5, during which investigators recovered several items considered crucial to the case. Paulino was taken into custody without any resistance.
Prosecutors have now submitted a request for his continued detention while awaiting trial and the investigation remains active.
Officials encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact law enforcement agency.
