The newly appointed chairman of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has paid a courtesy visit to the national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday in a press statement issued by his spokesperson, Ajuri Negelale, sacked Malam Jalal Arabi as executive chairman of NAHCON and replaced him with Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman as the commission’s new chairman.
Professor Usman, a distinguished scholar, was the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board chairman during Ganduje’s tenure as governor of Kano State.
Though, no official statement yet from NAHCON on the visit of their new chairman to Ganduje’s Abuja residence, LEADERSHIP understands it was to seek for his former boss’ support on his new job.
Prof Saleh Usman, who is yet to resume work in his new office at NAHCON, is coming at the time when the commission is in shambles over gross mismanagement of the N90 billion subsidy approved by President Bola Tinubu for the 2024 Hajj subsidy.
The appointment of the new chairman is subject to confirmation by the Senate as President Tinubu expects him to discharge his duties with integrity, transparency, and utmost fidelity to the nation.
