New Olubadan Coronation Nears As Late Oba Balogun Gets State Burial June 1

Arrangements are in top gear for the smooth coronation of Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakuleyin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan land with the fixing of Saturday June 1, 2024 for the burial ceremony of immediate past Olubadan, Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun by the Oyo State government.

The burial ceremony, according to Ibadan traditions signal the commencement of the coronation of the new Olubadan which may likely hold after the Eid-El-Kabir festival.

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde who is also an indigene of Ibadan has expressed readiness to give necessary support for the coronation of the next Olubadan and also ensure that due process is done ahead of his installation.

The throne of the Olubadan became vacant following the passage of Oba Balogun, who joined his ancestors at the age of 81 after a two-year reign.

The Ibadan kingmakers had last month forwarded the name of Oba Olakulehin to Governor Makinde through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters as the next monarch.

Also, the newly-built multimillion-naira Olubadan Palace at Oke Aremo, in the Ibadan North Local Government Area of the state, would be inaugurated two days before a yet-to-be-fixed date for the coronation of Olubadan-designate, Oba Olakuleyin.
