Hon. Adewale Egbedun, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member representing Odo-Otin State Constituency has emerged as the speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.
He was elected after being nominated by Hon. Ibrahim Abiola of Irewole/Isokan constituency and seconded by Hon, Areoye Samuel
The inaugural sitting of the 8th Assembly which was held in Osogbo, the Osun State capital was presided by the clerk of the House, Mr Simeon Amusan.
Also, Hon. Akinyode Oyewusi from Ife North state constituency was elected as the deputy speaker
In his proclamation speech, Governor Ademola Adeleke sought the support of the new Assembly for the continuation of good governance revolution he stands for.
The governor urged the Assembly to unite with the executive arm of government to ensure a harmonious relationship to guarantee a greater Osun State.
In his inaugural speech, Egbedun,assured the people that the Assembly would work for the advancement of good governance in the state.
He said the lawmakers would review the bills passed and assented to by the previous administration.
“We will not waiver nor slack in the protection of the citizens’ rights, advancement of good governance and the diligent execution of oversight functions on ministries, agencies and departments.
The speaker also assured Governor Adeleke of the lawmakers’ unalloyed support for his quest to deliver on good governance in the state.
He urged the governor to submit to the House his innovative executive bills on several issues of public interest, like the domestication of Nigeria’s Start Up Act, among others.
