The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has inaugurated its Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee, tasking them with overseeing the elections for the NFF Executive Committee for the 2026-2030 term.
The committees will also handle all complaints, petitions, and appeals related to the polls.
NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, officially inaugurated the committees at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, urging them to carry out their duties “creditably and with no fear or favour for any of the candidates.”
Barrister Matthew Burka’a, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and spokesperson for the committees, vowed to treat the assignment with the utmost seriousness. He pledged to conduct an election that would set a new benchmark for future polls within Nigerian football and the broader political landscape.
“We will approach this task with the seriousness it deserves. On behalf of all the members, I assure the NFF, football-loving Nigerians and the world at large that we are going to conduct a free, fair, credible and acceptable election.”
Burka’a further added, “We are aware of the attention of the entire world, FIFA, CAF and the Nigeria Football family on the task we have been saddled with. There is nothing to fear. We will work assiduously towards this election being the best-ever in the history of the Nigeria Football Federation.”
The Electoral Committee comprises Barrister Matthew Burka’a (SAN), Alhaji Babagoni Grema, Alhaji Bature Musa, Ayibaye Peter Great Temedie, Esq, and Hon. (Dr) Akogun Olugbenga Omole, with Arinze Azubuike Anughele, Esq and Abayomi Akin Omoyimi, Esq serving as alternate members.
The Electoral Appeals Committee will consist of Hon. Justice C. J. Aneke, Barrister Benjamin Sati, and Professor Abdulmalik Awwal, supported by alternates FIFA Emmanuel Dada Obafemi and Ayi Ekpo Ukpayam.
Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, MON, the NFF General Secretary, will serve as secretary to both committees, in line with NFF Statutes.
The elections for the NFF Executive Committee are scheduled to take place in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Saturday, 26th September.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Director General of the National Institute for Sports, Comrade Philip Shaibu; NFF 1st Vice President, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu; NFF Executive Committee members, Silas Agara and Chief George Aluo; and various NFF management and staff.
