NFF Sets September 26 For Elective Congress, Amends Statutes

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approved key amendments to its statutes and electoral framework, setting September 26 for its next elective congress.

The decisions were reached at an Extraordinary General Assembly held at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa, in Bayelsa State.

During the meeting, Congress unanimously endorsed revisions to the NFF Statutes (March 2026 Edition), Electoral Code, and Standing Orders, aimed at strengthening governance and enhancing transparency within the federation.

A 12-member Electoral Committee and Appeals Committee, drawn from the six geopolitical zones, was also ratified and is scheduled for inauguration on March 25 in Abuja.

On financial matters, Congress approved the appointment of Ernst & Young as the federation’s independent auditor for a four-year term following a competitive process involving seven firms.

Delegates also confirmed Lafia, Nasarawa State, as the host city for the 2026 elective congress, paving the way for the federation’s next leadership transition.

The assembly passed a vote of confidence in the NFF Executive Committee led by Ibrahim Musa Gusau, citing progress in football development across the country.

A minute of silence was observed in honour of late football icons, including former Technical Director Adegboye Onigbinde and ex-national team captain Henry Nwosu.

Congress further commended President Bola Tinubu for his support to sports, particularly in funding and incentives for national teams competing internationally.

The Bayelsa State Government was also praised for hosting the assembly, which was attended by representatives of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), who expressed support for Nigeria’s football reform efforts.
