The Nigeria Football Federation has constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the country’s recent setbacks in international football, particularly the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The decision follows Nigeria’s disappointing campaign at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Super Falcons were eliminated in the quarter-finals before losing 2-1 to South Africa in the playoff for a place in the Inter-Confederation Playoffs.

The defeat means Nigeria will miss the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, ending the Super Falcons’ record of featuring in every edition of the tournament since its inaugural staging in 1991.

According to the NFF, the committee will investigate the setbacks recorded by the national teams and identify factors responsible for the recent decline in Nigeria’s international football fortunes.

The federation said the committee would also make recommendations and propose measures aimed at preventing similar failures in future competitions.

Ambassador Fanny Amun, MON, will chair the committee, while former Nigeria internationals Ladan Bosso, Desire Oparanozie and Mutiu Adepoju will serve as members alongside Dr Alex Mana.

Mr Nasiru Jibril has been appointed as the secretary of the committee.

The NFF said the committee’s findings would provide a basis for addressing identified shortcomings and strengthening the country’s national teams ahead of future international competitions.

The federation’s decision comes amid growing concerns over Nigeria’s recent performances and the implications of missing the 2027 Women’s World Cup, particularly for a team that had previously maintained an unbroken record of qualification for the global tournament.
