The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) has honoured Edo State Commissioner for Education, who is also the chairman of the Steering Committee of tne Nigeria Education Forum (NEF) 2025, Dr Paddy Iyamu, with the prestigious Award of Excellence in Educational Impact.
The award was presented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, who was ably represented at the ceremony held at the Abuja Continental Hotel during the Nigeria Governors’ Forum event.
Dr. Iyamu was recognised for his outstanding contributions to the advancement of education in Edo State and his leadership role in shaping the national vision for educational transformation through the NEF 2025 Steering Committee.
The NGF noted that Governor Monday Okpebholo and Dr Iyamu’s strategic reforms, commitment to teacher development, and passion for quality learning have set new standards that continue to influence both state and national education policies.
In his remarks, Dr. Iyamu expressed profound gratitude to the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and the Office of the Vice President for the honour, describing the award as a motivation to further deepen his efforts toward sustainable educational excellence in line with the SHINE Agenda of his principal, the Governor of Edo State.
He dedicated the award to the governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, teachers, students, education stakeholders, emphasising that the success recorded so far is a collective achievement driven by teamwork and vision.
Recall that it has been an avalanche of awards, recognitions and honours for Edo State Ministry of Education led by Dr Iyamu in the last few months.
Recently, Iyamu was honoured with the award of a Fellow of the Centre for African Research on Enterprise and Economic Development at the University of West Scotland, United Kingdom.
Speaking on the occasion then, Iyamu said, “I thank God for giving Edo State a governor like His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo who has the interest of the people at heart and who also believes that education is a key to the emancipation of people from poverty and ignorance. He is also a leader who gives all the necessary support to people to excel in whatever positions they have been chosen to work.”
Similarly, the House of Lords in the United Kingdom also bestowed the Distinguished Euroknowledge Outstanding Leadership in Education Development on Iyamu.
The House of Lords is the upper chamber of the British Parliament.
Since the advent of the Okpebholo government in Edo State, the education sector has immensely benefited from the Midas touch of the commissioner, who was first appointed as the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board before the education-loving Governor Okpebholo redeployed him as Education Commissioner.
