The Progressive Impact Organisation for Community Development (PRIMORG) has called on the federal government to prioritise proper funding for anti-graft agencies to strengthen the fight against corruption in the country.

The a non-governmental organisation working to promote good governance and accountability made the call at a press briefing on the outcome of their three-year project titled; “Strengthening Anti-Corruption And Accountability By Amplifying Corruption-Related Investigative Reports On Radio And Through Social Media.”

PRIMORG’s executive director, Augustine Okhiria Agbonsuremi, said one of the key recommendations from their extensive grassroots engagements was the need for the federal government to adequately fund and support anti-corruption mechanisms, organs and institutions through appropriate legislation.

“The anti-corruption agencies, the media, and civil society groups working in the good governance space need certain levels of support and cooperation from the government to be maximally effective in carrying out their constitutional and legal mandates,” Agbonsuremi said.

He added that the required support ranges from increased transparency in governance through respect for laws and roles to the complete removal and avoidance of undue influence in the works of officials and agencies in the anti-corruption space.
