NGO Enrols 50 Pregnant Women Into Kaduna Health Insurance Scheme

As part of its activities to reduce maternal mortality, a non-governmental organisation, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), has launched the enrollment of 50 pregnant women into the Kaduna State Health Insurance Scheme.

The Public Healthcare Finance Team Lead Kaduna, CHAI, Funsho Lewu during the enrollment on Monday said that it is an abomination for any pregnant woman to die due to childbirth complications.

He further said, “It is not only during delivery that women have complications at times it occurs after delivery. It has been documented that there are post-natal infections that these pregnant women have that they don’t treat and these infections can lead to death”

“We have previously supported 21,000 vulnerable women in the scheme, and 10,000 others will be added to the insurance scheme sooner,” he added.

The commissioner for Health, Kaduna State, Hajia Umma Ahmed  who was represented by the executive secretary of the Kaduna State Health Supplies Management Agency (KADHSMA), Pharm. Aisha Isyaku Tukur disclosed that Governor Uba Sani is committed to addressing these challenges.

“Today’s event, which includes the enrollment of additional pregnant women under the vulnerable population programme, is a testament to the commitment.

“As we celebrate this important day, I urge all of us to renew our commitment to the women of Kaduna and to continue working together to ensure that no woman is left behind. Together, we can build a future where women’s rights are upheld, their voices are heard, and their contributions are fully recognized,” she said.

She thanked the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA), the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), and the State Primary Healthcare Board for their tireless efforts to improve women’s health and well-being.

“Their collaboration in today’s event highlights the critical role we all play in ensuring that women have access to the care and support they need, particularly during the vulnerable stages of pregnancy”.

Earlier in his remarks, the director general, KADCHMA,  Abubakar Hassan said the administration will extend the health insurance coverage to the formal and informal sectors.

He noted that the insurance scheme will ensure every resident has access to quality healthcare services without any financial shock.
