Worried by the recent security challenges in the Southwestern part of the country, a non-governmental organisation, World Institute for Peace (WIP), has called for the deployment of more military personnel to the region to tackle the menace of insecurity.

Its executive director, Dr. Lamina Omotoyosi, who made the appeal at a press conference in Osogbo, Osun State, said the attack on three traditional rulers in Ekiti State which claimed the lives of two of them and the kidnap of innocent pupils in the state among others calls for concern.

He, however, advocated the increment in the salaries of the nation’s military personnel to motivate them, enhance professionalism, retain skilled personnel, reduce corruption and foster national pride and loyalty.

His words: “Our institute recognises the crucial role played by the military in maintaining peace and security within Nigeria. However, it is disheartening to note that military personnel are not adequately compensated for their sacrifices and dedication to the nation.

“The Nigerian military plays a crucial role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, maintaining internal security, and contributing to peacekeeping efforts. As such, it is imperative that military personnel receive the best salaries commensurate with their sacrifices, dedication, and the risks they face.
