Ahead of the 2023 general election, a Non-governmental Organization (NGO) under the auspices of Improvement in Respect to Social Status of the Disabled in collaboration with Mercy Corps on Thursday sensitised over 200 Persons With Disability in Kaduna on peaceful election.
Director of the NGO, Dr. Micah Shabi in his welcome address urged the government to pay serious attention to PWD saying that they have large numbers.
“We are creating awareness among our people on how to have free and violence free elections ahead of the general elections”.
According to him, persons with disability do not contribute to any conflict or any form of violence but when it happens we are at the receiving end.
Shabi, who is visually impaired called on the governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-rufai to ensure implementation of the disability act in the State.
He lamented the economic situation in the country, saying that PWDs are at the receiving end because we cannot even go to farm, he added.
The senior programme officer, Emmanuel Shall through the Community Initiative to Promote Peace (CIPP) Mercy Corps said “we at the Mercy Corps, our aim is to help PWD to come up with an action plan on how they will contribute to peaceful, violence free election in Kaduna state”.
