The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has called on the citizens to prioritise promoting the diaspora and the flow of foreign direct investments to the Northeast to catapult the socio-economic growth and development of the region.

NiDCOM argues that Nigerians in the diaspora, especially those from the Northeast, must forsake the attitude of only exporting commodities from the region to global markets to woo foreign investors into the region.

The chairman of NiDCOM, Dr Abike Dabiri Erewa, made the plea during a two-day workshop in Bauchi on a Sensitisation and Advocacy Programme to Promote Diaspora Investment Potential in the Northeast.
Dr Dabiri Erewa emphasised the significance of promoting diaspora investment, highlighting NIDCOM’s efforts over the past six years to resolve, advocate for, and highlight diaspora issues.

The NiDCOM chairman, represented by the commission’s secretary, Engr. Sule Bassey noted that the commission has recorded over 20 million Nigerians in the diaspora and urged them to contribute to the country’s rapid development.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammad, represented by the state commissioner for budget and economic planning, Amina Muhammad Katagum, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to addressing the needs of Nigerians in the diaspora.
