Niger State government has adopted a harmonised, costed and time-bound implementation framework for the 2026 Annual Operational Plan, with clearly articulated roles, milestones, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for health care delivery in the state.
This was the outcome of a two-day internal technical retreat centred on setting the pace for strategic planning, stronger partnerships, improved health outcomes across the state, and revising and finalizing the implementation plan for the new Niger health agenda.
The retreat that attracted stakeholders from the health sector converged on the Zuma Rock Resort with featured strategic briefings and programme updates by key Speakers and Facilitators, including presentations on the New Niger Health Agenda, Primary Health Care Reforms, Health Financing, Hospital System Strengthening, Disease Control, RMNCAH+, and Partner – Supported Programmes.
The commissioner for Health, Dr. Murtala Bagana who gave an overview of the New Niger Health Agenda outlined the objectives of the retreat saying, it reaffirms the Ministry’s commitment to repositioning the health sector in line with the New Niger Health Agenda which provides a deliberate framework for strengthening healthcare systems across the State.
The commissioner lauded the participants for their dedication and contributions, reiterating the Ministry’s resolve to translate the outcomes of the retreat into measurable improvements in healthcare service delivery for the people of Niger State.
Also speaking the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mustapha Ndajiwo gave presentations on budget specifications and prioritization as well as budgeting for impacts and outlining the methods of utilization of funds to achieve set objectives.
There were also presentations from the Executive Secretary, Niger State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme NICARE, Dr Sulayman Abu-bakr who made presentation on Health Financing updates including presentations from the Niger State Agency for the Control of AIDS focused on Disease Control, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition.
The event also featured a series of in-depth presentations by key facilitators and thematic leads, focusing on priority programme areas, performance reviews, and strategic frameworks aligned with the New Niger Health Agenda of the Farmer Governor.
The engagements culminated in the consolidation of inputs into a harmonized, costed, and time-bound implementation framework for the 2026 Annual Operational Plan, with clearly articulated roles, milestones, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
