The motion for the vote of confidence was moved by the member representing Tafa constituency, Mohammed Idris, and seconded by the member representing Bida 2, Haruna Mohammed Dokodza.

The session chaired by the deputy speaker Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda, representing Gurara state constituency took many by surprise.

Afiniki said the session is to spotlight the administration, positing that Governor Bago has been a dogged and dedicated leader who has shown exemplary leadership style.

The legislators further praised the governor’s vision and foresight in leveraging Niger State’s abundant potential in agriculture by focusing and attracting key investment opportunities that will drive the growth of the state.

The lawmakers agreed that Bago’s intervention in providing lasting solutions to the  infrastructural needs of the state , wage awards, and other social interventions to cushion the effects of subsidy removal on the people were commendable.

Meanwhile, a member of a civil society organisation (CSO) Musa Farouk said the action of the House of Assembly is hasty and can subject them to suspicion.

“Such votes of confidence are better done in mid-term assessment or during state addresses, in civil climes where democracy is not just civil rule but governance  based on the majority will, vote of confidence after a middle of term assessment is understandable but this can be akin to sycophancy,” he said.
