Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has kicked off the construction of 250 kilometres of intra-city roads from Minna, Bida, Suleja, and Kontagora areas.

Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarikin Daji, advocated inclusion of toll gates in the highways.

Following the conclusion of the action plans, the governor performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 44km dual carriageway Bida Ring Road in Bida local government area at the weekend.

Governor Bago said his administration was committed to transforming the state and heralding a new era of prosperity through his urban renewal programmes.

He said the Bida Ring Road is important in his urban renewal initiatives and will be a catalyst for economic growth, employment generation, and enhanced living standards in the area

In his speech at the occasion, Daji called for the inclusion of tollgates in the ongoing road rehabilitation and construction in the State.

Represented by his deputy, Afinike Eunice, said the provision of tollgates would enhance the internally generated revenue of the state.

“You said you want us to increase the revenue base of the State by 20 percent but if you seat here and count the number of trailers entering Niger State you realize that it will be of great interest to have tollgates” he declared

Also, the commissioner for works and infrastructure, Alhaji Suleiman Umar assured of the commitment of the ministry to supporting all the infrastructural initiatives of the state governor.
