The Niger State Government has cancelled the APC political rally scheduled to hold this Saturday in Minna, the state capital.
The decision followed the death of 37 persons who were reportedly being held in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Niger State Command.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Umaru Bago expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and declared a three-day mourning period in honour of the victims.
The state government said the cancellation of the rally was in view of the unfortunate incident and out of respect for the deceased and their families.
The rally was expected to take place in Minna this weekend as part of the APC’s political activities in the state.
The government has also directed relevant authorities to take necessary steps regarding the incident.
