The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Samuel Ogbuku, has reiterated the Commission’s commitment to unlocking the agricultural potential of the Niger Delta region as part of efforts to achieve food security and sustainable development.
In a statement shared on the Commission’s official X (formerly Twitter) pages, Dr Ogbuku said the Niger Delta possessed the capacity to feed the nation beyond its dependence on oil and gas resources.
He noted that prioritising agriculture alignrd with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to diversify the economy and improve livelihood across Nigeria.
According to him, the Commission is committed to strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders to reposition the region as a significant hub for agricultural production.
“Our focus on agriculture goes beyond subsistence. It is about creating value chains, ensuring food security, and empowering communities across the Niger Delta,” Ogbuku said.
He added that the outcome of the stakeholders’ meeting would pave the way for a Regional Agricultural Summit and the establishment of a research-based framework to guide agricultural investment and policy decision-making in the region.
