The Niger Delta Students’ Union Government (NIDSUG) has threatened to stage a protest against the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) over alleged harassment of its members by security personnel attached to the commission.
Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt yesterday, NIDSUG president, Comrade Scott Ogunseri, gave the NDDC management a seven-day ultimatum to fix a meeting for the two parties.
Ogunseri said, “The leadership of NIDSUG expresses deep shock and strong condemnation over the shameful and inhumane treatment of our members at the gate of the Niger Delta Development Commission on Tuesday, May 29, 2025.
“Students, who had come in peace to express legitimate dissatisfaction over years of neglect and abandonment by the Commission, were unjustly humiliated, assaulted and brutalised by unidentified persons.
“This is an unacceptable violation of the rights of our members and a direct insult to the dignity of Niger Delta students.
“In the wake of the unprovoked attack, tension ran high and our members across the region were prepared to mobilise in full force and storm the NDDC headquarters.
“To avoid escalation, life members and elders council of our union acted swiftly by convening a high-powered stakeholders’ meeting.
“Following this intervention, a seven-day ultimatum has been given to the NDDC to meet with the leadership of NIDSUG and resolve this issue amicably.”
