The governor made the donation when he received a delegation of ICAN executives on a courtesy visit to him at the Government House, Minna.

While congratulating the newly elected members of the Institute on the new opportunity to steer the affairs of ICAN, he acknowledged that an indigene of the state emerged president of the institute, the first from the North Central zone in its  60 years of existence.

He described Dr. Haruna Nma Yahaya’s emergence as deserving, adding that he is capable of steering the Institute’s affairs and assured them of his continued support.

The 61st President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dr. Haruna Nma Yahaya said his visit to Governor Umaru Bago is his first engagement with state governments in Nigeria as he embarks on a mission to steer ICAN into a new era of innovation after six decades of professional excellence.

He applauded Niger State’s outstanding performance in public financial management where it ranked 3rd out of 36 states in the most recent ICAN Accountability Index assessment.

He noted that the achievement is due to the governor’s steadfast commitment to accountability, innovative financial stewardship, and exemplary governance.

He disclosed that one of his strategic ten-point agenda for this presidential year is to engage the vibrant youth and help to ignite their interest in the accountancy profession, and encourage them to pursue the ICAN qualification.

Dr. Haruna Yahaya also revealed that the decision to establish a special student centre to be named after Governor Umaru Bago is intended to serve the youth of Niger State and attract accountants from across the entire North Central geopolitical zone.
