The Niger State government has signed a contract with a private consultancy firm, BENIJ Nigeria Limited, to provide consultancy services for the construction of 556km of roads across the 25 local government areas of the state.
The signing of the agreement which took place yesterday was in line with the urban renewal policy of the Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago-led administration.
Governor Bago had decried the infrastructure deficit, especially roads in the state, saying his administration was poised to significantly turn around the situation.
He expressed optimism that the roads when completed would attract investors and make business easy for them.
The governor said engaging the services of the consultancy firm was to ensure quality control and value for money.
He said more road projects were expected to be carried out as this is the first phase of the projects.
The lead consultant at BENIJ Nigeria Limited, Olatunji Ajayi, assured the state government of full support in providing the much needed expertise that would ensure quality.
The consultancy firm is to come up with detailed design of the projects within five weeks as the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Works, Hassan Etsu, signed on behalf of the state government while the Ajayi signed for the firm.
